A medical profession is one of the most revered professions in the world today. Doctors earn lots of respect and in many places, there are treated equal to gods. If someone has the power to relieve you from pain, it is natural you hold him/her in high regard. A vocation in medicine calls for immense hard work and commitment.

Admissions to medical colleges happen through various state and national level examinations. Government colleges across the country offer admission based on scores obtained in the All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT) which is conducted by the CBSE board. However there are many other state level, national level and private institute examinations that can help you get admission to reputed medical schools across the country. Given below are a few of them:

National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET): NEET-UG scores are used by Banaras Hindu University and Armed Forces Medical College for admission to their undergraduate medical courses like MBBS and BDS. NEET-UG is also conducted by CBSE. This was introduced to replace AIPMT; however there is currently a stay from the court for this. So both entrance exams can be taken by prospective candidates.

AIIMS Medical Entrance Exam: Conducted by AIIMS, this highly competitive exam is taken by over 80, 000 students every year. The AIIMS test is considered the toughest as only 50 seats are available for intake. Eligibility for taking up this exam is 60% marks in your 12th grade. For SC/ST candidates this requirement is 50%.

CMC Vellore Common Entrance Test: This test is conducted for admission to Christian Medical College, Vellore, one of the most premier medical colleges in the country. The college is affiliated to Dr MGR Medical University and the annual intake is 60 students making it a very competitive exam.

Armed Forces Medical Colleges Entrance Exam: This exam is conducted annually during May for admission to AFMC Pune. In addition to Physics, Biology and Chemistry papers, candidates also need to clear tests on Intelligence, Logical Reasoning and English Language and Comprehension.
This is a national level entrance test for admissions to MBBS and BDS courses in Kasturba Medical College at Mangalore and Manipal. This online test is conducted normally in April-May every year and subject papers include Physics, Chemistry, Biology and English Language.
